From September 22, 2023 to September 22, 2024, MAPNA Group has successfully added a total of 2,395 MW of electricity to the grid, with 1,846 MW generated domestically, highlighting MAPNA’s pivotal role in meeting the country’s electricity demands.
The conglomerate has not only enhanced the national power grid but also advanced operations and projects in renewable energy. The group has focused on reducing fossil fuel consumption and water usage in power plants by employing modern technologies.
In recent months, MAPNA has commissioned several power units, including four 10 MW wind units at the Dorh Wind Farm, a 307 MW F-class gas unit at the Sahand Power Plant, and a 183 MW gas unit plus a steam cycle at the Rumaila Power Plant in Iraq.
Achievements in power plant development
To date, MAPNA Group has signed contracts for 162 projects encompassing 543 power units with a total capacity of 68,695 MW, both domestically and internationally. Of these, 404 units with a capacity of 52,284 MW are operational, while 139 units with a capacity of 16,411 MW are under construction.
MAPNA’s international presence includes the commissioning of over 5,000 MW of electricity outside Iran, with an additional 1,900 MW under development. Notable projects include a 170 MW steam unit at the Latakia Power Plant and three 480 MW steam units at the Rumaila Power Plant.
Achievements in renewable energy
Recognizing global trends, MAPNA Group entered the renewable energy sector in the early 2000s. The conglomerate has localized the production of 2.5 MW wind turbines, resulting in the construction of three wind farms with a total capacity of 155 MW, currently operational, and an additional 100 MW wind farm under construction.
To create an integrated renewable energy complex, a 2 MW solar farm has been established alongside the 55 MW Kahak Wind Farm. Recently, three 10 MW solar power plants in Behreman, Safaiyeh, and Zarand have been added to MAPNA’s operational portfolio, with a 10 MW solar plant in Sirjan under construction.
In 2023, MAPNA won the tender for the 600 MW Mobarakeh Solar Power Plant, the largest centralized solar power plant in the country. Additionally, MAPNA secured 430 MW of solar power projects in the 2022 SATBA (Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization) tender and 100 MW of wind power projects in the 2023 SATBA tender.
MAPNA is also localizing string and central inverters and developing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to support the expansion of renewable energy.
Achievements in water sector
For over 20 years, MAPNA Group has worked on many water production and processing projects. These include seawater desalination using membrane and thermal methods, wastewater treatment for urban and industrial uses, demineralized water production for industries and power plants, and water recycling. The total capacity of these projects is 159,000 cubic meters per day.
Key projects include 17,000 cubic meters per day of demineralized water production at the Makran project. The same project also produces 48,000 cubic meters per day of desalinated seawater for potable and industrial use. The Lian Project in Bushehr delivers 35,000 cubic meters per day of potable seawater, while the Charak Project in Hormozgan Province provides 8,000 cubic meters per day. The Dayyer Project in Bushehr Province adds another 3,750 cubic meters per day. Additionally, MAPNA has completed two thermal seawater desalination projects on Qeshm Island, with a combined capacity of 26,000 cubic meters per day. The company has also carried out over 100 projects for demineralized water supply from well and seawater sources for power and industrial use, along with two wastewater recycling projects with a capacity of 19,000 cubic meters per day.
